To evacuate visitors to the attraction in the Ulyanovsk amusement park, rescuers had to use an aerial platform. The fact is that the operation took place at a height.
The chained carousel suddenly froze during another session. At this time, all the chairs on it were occupied by vacationers, according to the TV channel “Russia 24”.
Due to the fact that people were wearing seat belts, no one was hurt. True, judging by the messages on social networks, they had to hang above the ground for a long time. Attempts to lower the carousel were unsuccessful, the rescuers decided to go up to those waiting for help themselves.
Business activity in the service sector and industry continued to grow in April, according to the leading indicators of IHS Markit and the Gaidar Institute. If in industry it grew slowly compared to March, then in the service sector it grew at the fastest pace in the last seven months due to the expansion of demand and new orders. Experts note that the recovery of the Russian economy is taking place against the backdrop of a continuing increase in cost pressures and inflation.
The publication on Thursday by Markit of the April Composite (Processing and Services) Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) indicates continued business growth. In April, the value of the index was 54 points against 54.6 points in March (the value of the index above 50 points indicates an increase in activity). The April growth rate of the index was the highest since August 2020.
In the service sector The number of new orders increased for the fourth month in a row (albeit at a slightly slower pace than before), the company attributed this growth to an increase in the number of customers and the realization of part of the deferred demand after the relaxation of quarantine restrictions. Export Demand also continued to grow, and sales growth stabilized at the highest growth rate since May 2019, although new export orders fell slightly. At the same time, the volume of unfinished orders in the sector decreased significantly.
«The unprecedented shock of 2020 first led to a record failure of the index, then to a sharp increase, but now the indicators are normalizing (as in other countries).
At the same time, demand (local and export) is steadily growing, forcing firms to restore employment, and the indicators of expectations remain high, ”- Dmitry Polevoy from Loko-invest commented on the April PMI in the service sector, noting that the growth of business activity in it continues at an accelerated rate. compared to the average rate.
In the processing of the PMI in April, it indicated a minimal improvement business environment over the past four months – due to weak demand. This demand led to the fact that the volume of new orders in the sector fell for the first time since the beginning of the year amid strong inflationary pressures. “In April 2021, the Russian industry continued to confidently recover from the transient crisis of 2020. The positive dynamics of demand, coupled with high optimism in sales forecasts and a shortage of finished goods stocks, allows enterprises to maintain output growth and increases demand for labor, ”experts from the Gaidar Institute noted in the April industry polls.
Increased inflationary pressures continues to accompany the recovery in both manufacturing and services, remaining historically high in the latter, although inflation in April fell to three-month lows. “In April, inflationary expectations of the Russian industry continued to grow, adding another 4 points to the March result, which repeated the records of 2010 and 2015. The next “peak” that can submit to the pricing policy of the Russian industry is the pre-crisis July 2008, until which 5 points remain modest at the present time, “said Sergei Tsukhlo from the Gaidar Institute.
«Firms have sought to pass some of the higher purchase prices onto their customers amid a sharp rise in fees, ”Markit points out, noting that respondents in the latest survey noted an increase in the cost of imports.
“In general, the April PMI report confirms a confident economic recovery, while maintaining high inflation. Today’s weekly inflation figures and Friday’s for April will clarify the price situation, ”concludes Dmitry Polevoy.
The Russian government will strengthen the fight against smoking: this will reduce sales of tobacco products and increase life expectancy.
The government approved an action plan for the implementation of the anti-tobacco concept until 2035: among them is the elaboration of a ban on the use of e-liquids. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a relevant order.
A ban is being prepared on the use of flavors, dyes and addiction-enhancing additives in all nicotine-containing products. This will affect e-liquids. Liquid flavors of electronic cigarettes disrupt the functioning of the human lungs.
Among 20 other measures – informing about the dangers of nicotine, the implementation of programs to improve the health of citizens. The authorities also intend to strengthen control over the observance of the ban on advertising of tobacco products, to strengthen the fight against illegal production and circulation of tobacco products.
According to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, Russia plans to produce only standard-sized and anonymized packages, and 75% of their area should be occupied by images of the effects of smoking.
It is also planned to ban the classification of tobacco products by the level of toxic substances. Any such products are hazardous to health, and underestimation of the hazard misleads consumers.
The concept of state policy against smoking was approved in 2019. According to the plan, by 2035, the number of smokers in the country will decrease from the current 29% to 21%, and morbidity and mortality from diseases associated with smoking will decrease.
The Parker probe plunged into the atmosphere of Venus and received a radio signal that was born in its thickness. This windfall will help scientists understand how Venus became uninhabitable.
The Parker space probe received a radio signal from Venus. True, it was not aliens who sent it, but the very atmosphere of the planet, into which the device unexpectedly plunged. However, the new data is still associated with the problem of extraterrestrial life. Perhaps they will help to understand how Venus, this twin of the Earth, turned into a pitch hell, destructive for all living things.
We talked in detail about the Parker probe. Let us recall that its main task is to study the Sun. Soon after launch, the device approached the luminary at a record distance and since then has updated its own records several times. Most recently, in April 2021, he approached our star for the eighth time.
To get closer and closer to the Sun, the probe must change its orbit. To do this, the mission uses the gravity of Venus. On July 11, 2020, Parker approached this planet for the third time and came closer to it than ever before. He passed only 833 kilometers from the surface. For comparison, the ISS revolves around the Earth at an altitude of 400 kilometers.
It was here that the scientists were in for a surprise. The FIELDS (literally “fields”) instrument installed on board the probe, designed to measure electromagnetic fields, has detected a radio signal. It lasted only seven minutes, during which the device was closest to the planet.
“I was so thrilled when I got the new data from Venus,” admits the study’s first author Glyn Collinson of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
The scientist quickly figured out the nature of the unusual signal.
“The next day I woke up and thought, ‘Oh my God, I know what this is!” “- says Collinson.
The expert recalled his work with the Galileo spacecraft, which explored the moons of Jupiter. A similar signal appeared whenever the probe passed through the ionosphere of the giant planet’s moons.
Let us explain what the ionosphere is. Charged particles and X-rays from space burst into the outer layer of the atmosphere of a planet or satellite. They strip electrons from gas atoms, converting them into ions. The layer of the atmosphere undergoing such an attack is called the ionosphere.
Ionized gas emits radio waves that carry information about its density and other characteristics. And this is a great success for astronomers who have not explored the Venus ionosphere “in situ” for thirty years.
The last time such measurements were carried out by the Pioneer-Venera-1 probe was in 1992. Then the Sun was at the peak of an 11-year cycle of activity. But “Parker” entered the ionosphere of Venus just six months after the protracted minimum of the next cycle.
The solar wind and X-ray radiation of the Sun are the main “culprits” of ionization of the atmosphere of Venus (as well as of the Earth). Therefore, it could be expected that the characteristics of the ionosphere at the minimum and maximum of activity would differ.
Indeed, the density of the Venusian ionosphere in 2020 turned out to be an order of magnitude lower than in 1992. By the way, this is exactly what observations from the Earth show: the ionosphere of the second planet from the Sun becomes denser when solar activity is on the rise, and becomes thinner when the activity of the star is declining.
Now this pattern has been confirmed by measurements directly in the atmosphere of Venus. But scientists still do not know why the planet’s ionosphere becomes thinner precisely at the minimum of solar activity, and not vice versa.
Venus, unlike Earth, does not have a magnetic field that protects the atmosphere from being “blown away” by the solar wind. It would seem that it is at the maximum of solar activity that the planet should lose gas most intensively. Consequently, the ionosphere should be more rarefied. However, observations show that everything happens exactly the opposite. However, experts have hypotheses explaining this strange phenomenon. But which of them is correct, only future research will show.
Note that the Venusian atmosphere is of interest to humanity for a reason. Venus is Earth’s cosmic twin. Its radius is 95% of the earth. It is only 1.4 times closer to the Sun than our planet, and is very similar to it in chemical composition. Why, then, on the surface of Venus, there is a temperature of 470 ° C and a pressure of more than 90 atmospheres? Why is there practically no water, even in the form of steam? Astronomers have only hypotheses explaining such a striking dissimilarity of the sister planets. But a careful study of Venus will sooner or later help establish the truth.
The details of the study are outlined in a scientific article published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
By the way, earlier we talked about the ozone layer on Venus and why its atmosphere rotates faster than the surface.
